Fun Valley History
The Fun Valley Complex opened for play Memorial Day
weekend of 1980. It was originally built as part of a large recreation
facility by local oil man Larry Brown.
In 1983 the City Of Hutchinson, Kansas purchased the
complex. Over the years numerous improvements have been made to keep
the facility as one of America's premier complexes.
A clubhouse, observation decks, sand volleyball courts,
playground and offices complex were added in 1989.
In 1995 two additional fields were lighted and in 1996
red shale was incorporated with lime to make the finest of playing
surfaces.
In 1989 Fun Valley was named Sportsplex Operators and
Directors Association Complex of the year. In 1993 it received the
same such honor from the United States Slow-Pitch Softball Association.
In 1981 Fun Valley hosted the USSSA Women's Class "A" World
Tournament. Since that time 40 USSSA World Tournaments, 14 USSSA Divisional
Tournaments, 74 USSSA NIT's and hundreds of USSSA State Tournaments
have been hosted at Fun Valley. In addition 11 National Junior College
Athletic Association National Tournaments have been hosted at Fun
Valley.
In 1996 and 1998 Fun Valley also hosted the North American
Fastpitch Association World Series.
